Mit -25° Declination und maximal 16° Horizonthöhe ein schwieriges Objekt hier in Bayern. Im Zentrum des Haufen befindet sich Tau Canis-Majoris.

Ein mit 50 Sonnenmassen blauer Supergigant, 280 000 facher Sonnenleuchtkraft, 32000° Oberflächentemperatur der Spektralklasse O9.

Mit einer Entfernung von 5000 Lichtjahren soll er zum Haufen gehören.

Um Ihn herum gruppieren sich rund 30 Sterne zwischen 9 und 12 mag.

Insgesamt sollen es einige hundert sein. Haufen ist mit 4 bis 5 Millionen Jahren noch sehr jung. Auch optisch ein wunderbares Objekt.
