Description

Palomar 5 is a globular cluster in Serpens and a member of the Palomar Globular Clusters group.  Due to their faintness, 13 out of 15 clusters were discovered in the 1950s on the survey plates of the first Palomar Observatory Sky Survey.  Palomar 5 was discovered by Walter Baade in 1950 and then independently found again by Albert George Wilson in 1955.  Our Milky Way is gravitationally disrupting this cluster with many stars leaving in the form of a stellar stream.

I haven't imaged one of these clusters before.  Since they are fairly dim objects, I devoted quite a bit of time for Lum data to capture some of the fainter stars.

Taken over several nights:  Apr 21; May 12, 21 and 23, 2023.
