Description

NGC 1514 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Taurus near the border with Perseus.  In November, I imaged this object with my C11 EdgeHD in HOO narrowband in order to resolve as much detail as possible.  I also shot a few hours of luminance with the Esprit 100ED refractor in order to capture some dust in the background to add into the C11 image.  It did not add much to the final image due to the small field of view of the C11.  This image is a dusty widefield version with the refractor data only.

The luminance channel is pure luminance without any narrowband data.  The color channels are constructed from HOO data.  NGC 1514 sticks out like a sore thumb in this field because most of the stars and background galaxies have a ruddy tint.  There are some cool background galaxies shining through the dust near the lower border of the image.

I applied minimal processing to this image, with modest noise reduction and just a little bit of star size reduction.
