Description

The Black Eye Galaxy

Located approximately 24 million light years from us. It appears to be a normal spiral galaxy, but the inner region rotates in the opposite direction from the outer, likely due to a collision of galaxies. The shear region is high in star formation due the large amount of movement of gas and dust. The dark dust clouds give this galaxy its name.

This image was done in one evening with 3 hours and 40 minutes of exposure time.
