Exposure Comparisons

Description

This image compares two ways of imaging. The left image is composed of 6 x 10 minute stacked exposures. The right image is 1 x 60 minute exposure. Both images were done with the same camera, scope and mount. The amount of faint detail is higher and the amount of background noise is lower in the single 1 hour exposure. In fact, it takes almost 2 hours of stacked images to equal the same noise level of the single 1 hour exposure. Both images were taken with Ha narrowband filter.

The images were highly stretched to show the faintest detail and the background noise. The images are 100% sized. FWHM in the 1 hour exposure is 1.5 arc sec.
