Description

testing - Begin of a projected mosaic of the virgo cluster at 300 mm focal lenght.

I try to get some experience to aim the cam to a certain sky section. With this picture I get a better feeling for the location and distances. Its very hard to get the position right, because in this region are no bright stars visible in the DSLR camera viewfinder and my heavy russian telephoto lens is mounted on a wobbly ball joint. 300mm focal lenght, only a rough clue where I aim to and a wobbly mount...

I loose a lot of precious time to align the camera. And in the end I get a shiftig FOV. Thats not satisfying at all. The mounting for the heavy guiding cam and foto cam is too weak.

I have to rethink this method. I definitely need a stiffer ball joint mount. Preferably with fine adjustment in itself.

Furthermore I have to reduce ISO to 400. Wtih this and a better mount I can extend exposure time to 4 minutes. I cannot expose longer because of light pollution. I decided not to use the CLS CCD filter, because it steels a lot of the spectrum of galaxies. And it lessens even more light valuable for seeking the position. So I have to repair the background noise via software.

This is hard....
