Description

First light with the William Optics Fluorostar 120 I self-gifted for my birthday.

This is the Crescent Nebula, about 5,000 light years away. The central star is at the end of its life and is shedding its mass. The red bands are hydrogen, and the blue oxygen. Ultimately, this red giant will finish with a supernova.

Image is bicolor narrowband with RGB stars.

Preprocessing
  1. WeightedBatchProcessing
  2. Subframe Selector using (number of) Stars for weight
  3. Image Registration
  4. Local Normalization
  5. Image Integration
  6. Drizzle Integration
  7. Dynamic Crop
  8. Dynamic Background Extraction on R, G, B, OIII (not Ha)
  9. EZ Denoise

 RGB (Stars)
  1. LinearFit G and B to R
  2. ChannelCombination
  3. BackgroundNeutralization
  4. Photometric Color Calibration
  5. EZ Soft Stretch
  6. Histogram Transformation

 Narrowband
  1. EZ Soft Stretch
  2. StarNet++ to remove stars
  3. Extract wavelet layers, HT on residual to create a mask
  4. Use HT to darken the background
  5. PixelMath to combine: R: Ha / G: 0.2*Ha + 0.8*OIII / B: OIII
  6. CurvesTransformation

 Combined
  1. PixelMath: K: 1-((1-stars) * (1-NB))

Description: Light reprocessing, applying OIII as a Luminance channel to the narrowband image. Much improved OIII nebulosity as a result.
