Description

Before this session I did a rough collimation using a makeshift site tube and cheshire. I stretched rubber bands over the focuser screws petruding into the OTA for the site tube crosshairs. The secondary mirror as received from the factory and after shipping appeared to be off, so I corrected it. The primary appeared to be in collimation using the factory applied center mark and my reflective cheshire made from an old 35mm film cannister. The Dubhe image appears to be better than my Polaris test shot both in terms of distorted stars and focus, but there is room for improvement. I used a bahtinov mask for focusing, looked OK with liveview, but on closer inspection of a bahtinov image the focus was slightly off. The Dubhe image shown here is a jpeg taken straight from my 60D, a 30 second exposure at ISO 3200.
