Description

NGC 2992/3 (aka Arp 245) are two interacting galaxies in Hydra. The top spiral is NGC 2992 and the lower spiral is NGC 2993. Notice the very blue star UITBOC 1574 just to the east of the tip of the northern plume of NGC 2992.

The third galaxy in the group is FGC 938, the thin flat one to the southwest. Red shift data places it at about the same distance (125mly) as the other two galaxies.
