Description

NGC 281, IC 11 or Sh2-184 is a bright emission nebula and part of an H II region in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia. It is a very rewarding object to photograph in narrowband.

The images have been collected over a total of 6 nights in the period October 2018 - Januari 2019. Several weather- and technical issues led to a significant amount of lost frames, but in the end a total of 16h of exposure was worth final processing.

This image is processed in the Hubble palet, assigning SII to the Red, Ha to the Green and OIII to the Blue channel. Curve transformations are at the heart of this processing and can lead to significantly different hues, so the colours you end up with is mostly a matter of personal taste.

A small set of RGB frames is used to give some extra colour to the stars.
