Description

Hydrogen Alpha filamentary structure around the Coalsack in Crux.

A large filamentary structure of 10-degrees in diameter, the Coalsack Loop, which most likely is situated on the far side of the Coalsack Nebula and energized by the Centaurus OB1 association. This object is most likely the expanding remains of an old supernova remnant or HII region and may be interacting with the Coalsack. The Coalsack is composed of two clouds located at distances of 188 pc and 243 pc.
