Description

With rare snow falling in Melbourne over recent days, processing deep sky data by the fire place has been a good place to be. This is a rework of subs captured in March 2018 (OSC) and May 2020 (Lum), with the addition of some more recent Ha. I have retraced my previous processing attempts from about half way through, with red wine and cheese helping the creative processes of fine tuning star and galaxy masks in PixInsight!

There are so many wonderful face-on spirals in the northern hemisphere, but this is one of my favourites in the south. It's relatively close at ~15m light years and has yielded 6 recorded supernovae since 1923, the last being in 1983.

Thanks for looking!
