I used an L-eXtreme filter for luminance, this gave me more detail and stars with less bloat.   

Elephant Trunk Nebula done in L, R, G, B  using a monochrome camera.
Half of the images were taken with a nearly full moon rising.
After a storm passed and the moon went away I finished the imaging.
All processing done with PixInsight (minor touchups using Lightroom)
A lot of the processing was done after watching "How to Imaging and Process M31 In Ha LRGB" by "Entering Into Space". I left off the Ha part and  added some of my own processing ideas, ie using the L-eXtreme filter for luminance.

Soon I will make the leap to narrrowband filters and give the Elephant another try. I have ordered a set of Antlia 3nm Ha, Oiii, and Sii filters, I'm hoping they will arrive soon.

The following is a recap of my processing using PixInsight - I tried not to overuse any of the processes. I don't like the look of over-processed images. 

Blink - get rid of bad images
SubframeSelector - get rid of images with substandard FWHM, Eccentricity, low star count etc
WeightedBatchPreprocessor used to stack R, G, B and Lum
DynamicCrop - get rid of stacking artifacts at edges or R,G,B,L
AutomaticBackgroundExtraction - clean up the background on R,G,B,L

Create a Luminance Mask from the RGB image.

Convolution - slight blur the RGB iimage
HistogramTransformation - darken background on Luminance_Mask
MultiscaleLinearTransform - reduce noise using Luminance_Mask as mask for RGB image
HistogramTransformation - stretch the Luminance image
LRGBCombination - add the luminance image to the RGB image - now have LRGB image
ACDNR - denoise LRGB image
EZ Star Reduction Script to reduce star size on LRGB image
CurvesTransformation - darken background
PixelMath - increase weight of the Red image by 10%
CurvesTransformation - increase contrast
MultiscaleLinearTransform - reduce noise
