      Description

NGC 6164/6165 is a bipolar emission nebula in the Southern constellation of Norma. It surrounds the triple star system, HD 148937, and was created by it. HD 148937 includes a massive, hot O-type star of approximately 40 solar masses. NGC 6164 and 6165 are the bright "tips" of the inner emission shell. There is also a very dim outer shell made visible in this image by a very deep OIII exposure of approximately 37 hours total.
