With the new C8 EHD ‘operational’, now it’s just a matter of waiting for Clear Skies …

… which is apparently a long wait these days.

The forecast for last night wasn’t anything to be excited about, clouds, strong wind, lots of moist in the air, with rolling in clouds spelling the doom of potential rain. But, there were some clear patches, and I took my chance. Setting up the C8 is so much more lighter/easier/agile compared to the C11, fully operational in 30mins (including polar alignment)

At first, I attempted the capture Mars, but the seeing was pretty bad. The image of Mars blurring and jumping in the video frame, never a long enough period to capture 5 min of unclouded video.

So, I turned my attention to the moon, being just 2 days past full moon … By this time at night, there was a larger clear patch, and the seeing seemed to have calmed down a bit (just a bit)

This time I managed to get a full mosaic in, without leaving a hole in the center, or having edges that didn’t want to match.

Maybe still slightly too aggressive with the wavelets, some isolated bright spots, but I think that this is one of my most detailed/sharp moon images to date (5.3k x 5.3k)

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status.
