Description

Barred spiral galaxy NGC 4725 and spiral galaxy NGC 4712 in Coma Berenices. Several small galaxies are also visible, including two small PGC galaxies (1735228 1734926) just below NGC 4725, but there are many other smaller galaxies visible.

The main two galaxies are known to be interacting. You can see the arms of NGC 4725 extend towards NGC 4712, and there is a stream of neutral hydrogen (can't be seen with visible light, but no problem at radio frequencies) linking the two.

The seeing was excellent for a couple of nights, so the resolution is around 1.8" FWHM.

Second version with better smoothing using linear mask in PI.

Third version processed with TGVDenoise and also used a mask to reduce the intensity of the HDRWavelet process - I didn't apply it to the first to revisions because it was too harsh.

Also interesting is that I used a different colour space for the processing. In the final version, I use ProPhoto RGB rather sRGB that I used in the first two versions. This gives a green-blue tint to the galaxy, rather than the bright blue I get with sRGB.
