Description

This object, also known as NGC 4015, is a pair of galaxies located 210 million light years away in the constellation of Coma Berenices at a declination of +25 degrees. This object was classified by Dr. Arp into the odd category of Material Emanating from Elliptical Galaxies.

The bright elliptical is MCG+04-28-109. It is magnitude 14 and is about 70,000 light years in diameter. The smaller magnitude 16 edge-on spiral, obviously closer to us, is MCG+04-28-110.

I don’t believe that these 2 galaxies are close enough to be interacting. I don’t see much disturbance in the edge-on spiral, which would be expected especially given that the other galaxy is an elliptical.

Numerous other galaxies are seen in the background. I particularly like NGC 4005, at upper right.
