Description

21P/Giacobini-Zinner, icy dirtball virtually flying-by the open cluster M37.

Funfact I

September 11 1985, after being reactivated, NASA's spacecraft ICE (International Cometary Explorer) achieved the 1st ever cometary encounter by passing through this comet's plasma tail.

September 11 2018, and after several loops around the sun, this comet passed though its closest approach to earth.

Funfact II

21P/Giacobini-Zinner comet is responsible for the meteor shower Draconids in October 8, but this is the only meteor shower that also named after its comet, the other name is Giacobinis
