Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a lenticular ring galaxy located 0.4 billion light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +38 degrees.  It is a magnitude 14 galaxy which spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.

I like the contrast of the bright colorful nearby Milky Way stars with the delicate white distant galaxy.  The galaxy appears a bit disturbed, perhaps by the nearby small galaxy to its upper left.  No distance information is available for that small galaxy so we cannot confirm whether it is a companion.
