Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a galaxy triplet located 280 million light years away in the constellation of Puppis at a declination of -14 degrees.

IC 2375 is the largest galaxy, the barred grand design spiral on the right.  It spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a large diameter of 140,000 light years.  The disk is somewhat disturbed, with one of the arms extending much further to the right.

IC 2377 is the central lenticular galaxy, which IC 2379 is the barred ring spiral on the left.

The data shows all 3 galaxies to be a similar distance away, but are they interacting?  I see faint star streams connecting all of them, but they are very faint.  The large spiral is a bit disturbed, but not the other two.  I believe that they are interacting but only slightly at this time.
