Description

Leo Triplet (M65, M66, and NGC 3628 ), my first try at imaging/processing galaxies. My plan was to be able to capture the fainter/distorted disks of the trio but more importantly, the long tidal tail of NGC 3628 and the faint, low surface brightness dwarf galaxy near the end of the tail. The data were taken from Bortle 2, 3, and 4 zones over several nights, at typically low temperatures which definitely helped a lot in revealing the fainter stuff. Given the dynamic range of these objects, the processing was not straightforward with the image processing tools I have. So, I ended up using many masks to be able to achieve this. I am quite happy with the result after all. I should add it is a cutout. The actual field of view of my setup is ~ twice larger.
