Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as UGC 6175, is a pair of interacting galaxies located 370 million light years away in the constellation of Leo at a declination of +18 degrees. In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Galaxies with Narrow Filaments.

The left galaxy is MCG+03-28-063. This magnitude 15 spiral galaxy spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years. The right galaxy is MCG+03-28-062, an elliptical.

2 bright regions appear above and below the core of the spiral galaxy. These look like foreground small stars to me, but the upper region also has an offset blue section so that could be a star cluster in the galaxy behind the star.

My favorite part of the image is how the star stream from the right spiral arm seems to faintly curl back into the elliptical galaxy.

I also enjoyed the two spiral galaxies in the background - the blue galaxy at top left and the orange galaxy at bottom right.
