Description

NGC 2648 is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Cancer about 94 million light-years from the Milky Way . It was discovered by the German - British astronomer William Herschel in 1784 . The galaxies PGC 24469 and NGC 2648 are designated in the Halton Arp atlas under the symbol Arp 89. NGC 2648 is a retired galaxy. A galaxy whose star formation has practically ceased is said to be passive.
