Description

Commonly called the Pleiades or Seven Sisters, M45 is known as an open star cluster. It contains over a thousand stars that are loosely bound by gravity, but it is visually dominated by a handful of its brightest members. The light of the stars is reflecting off the surface of pitch-black clouds of cold gas laced with dust. This produces a reflection nebula.
M45 is located an approx. distance of 445 light-years from Earth in the constellation Taurus.

This image is a mosaic of 4 individual pictures, each composed of 25x300s subs. Only the best 25 exposures were retained for each sub. It was taken with a cooled CMOS color camera and a light pollution filter during several nights in October 2021.
