Description

Whew....this was a tough target to process for some reason. I went through over 20 set ups and variations in my processing for this one. The nebula images were done in July and Sept 2020 and are processed as an SHO. The narrowband stars were removed with Starnet and replaced with RGB stars.

NGC 6820 is the nebula and NGC 6823 is the star cluster in the center. Those stars are the engines powering the formation of the "Elephant Trunk" like pillars. Those pillars are pointed into the direction of the stellar wind coming from those stars.

It fascinates me at how often you see the same forces at work in numerous nebulae throughout the Milky Way. It wasn't until I started imaging different objects that those windsocks came to my attention and how common they are.

Description: Another complete rework. I've been trying my hand at using PhotoShop in addition to PixInsight. It really made a huge difference. There's still a lot room for improvement but I'm heading in the right direction.

Description: Started over from scratch once again. This time I tone mapped it as well as dealt with the noise more.
