Description

The maximum of the "Great Conjunction" between Jupiter and Saturn, was scheduled on December 21, the precise moment of the winter solstice!!!

A phenomen that has not been observed for nearly 800 years!

The two largest planets in the solar system were separated by only six minutes of arc, one tenth of a degree or one fifth of the diameter of the full moon. Such a rapprochement had not occurred since the 17th century, precisely on July 16, 1623, when the two giants were only 5 minutes of arc away.

But... it is a fact that it was then barely observable because of its too great proximity to the Sun in the sky. It was thus necessary to go back four centuries, on March 4, 1226, to find such a configuration visible to the naked eye!

This picture was taken only 1 day before the maximum of the phenomen, while the two planets were only separated from 9,29 minutes of arc.
