Description

Here is Sh2-132, which is a bright region of a much larger nebula in Cepheus close to the Lacerta. This region fits well in my fairly small field of view of around half a degree. Its a pretty decent view of the nebula from my suburban backyard, but I wish I had about 3 times the amount of data. This would have reduced some of the noise induced artifacts. It was tricky to both capture and stack because the nebula was orbiting around Dobson's hole when I was capturing the five 6 minute live-stack images that went into this final image. This produced a lot of rotation from image to image resulting in the Sci-Fi-style star halos composed of multiple superimposed diffraction spikes.

The target has lots of emission regions, but also has tints of blue reflection nebula as well as brown tints caused by dust as well as the very dark opaque dusty regions.

Wish I had captured this from a dark sky site rather than from my backyard because:

1) Its tough to capture the fainter parts of the nebula from the suburbs.

2) I would have been able to capture more than just 30 minutes of data before it went behind my house!

In retrospect, maybe I should have captured this with my IDAS filter, but I would have needed a lot more exposure time than I had available. Its tough to get a lot of time on a target from my backyard because of the narrow view of the sky I have...
