Description

Comet C/2020 F8 SWAN has a 10 degree tail and was captured in the predawn light from Wattle Flat. I was having a battle between enough altitude, as the tree top attests and beating the morning light. In the end I think I got it about right, with the dawn colours adding to the scene I think.

This is an integration of 10 images of 45 secs duration, ISO 6400, f/7, focal length 105mm with my Canon EOS 5D mkII on a bracket atop my telescope. It was calibrated with 20 darks & 20 bias images.

The star alongside is Deneb Kaitos Shemali or Iota Ceti. The name is from the Arabic word ذنب قيطس الشمالي - dhanab qayṭas al-shamālī, meaning the northern tail of the sea monster. Is that not a beautiful name?
