Description

I thought the Horse Head Nebula would be a nice target to see what kind of differences the stacking parameters in Deep Sky Stacker produce. In above image the Horse Head was cropped in the same way in 3 different images: The first one was done in the "traditional" way, median stacking, no drizzle. For the middle image I used 3x drizzle with all other parameters not changed. The third and most right image used 3x drizzle plus median kappa sigma clipping.

While I do not see much difference between the middle and the right image I believe that the 3x drizzle made a slight difference. A difference thought hat might not be worth doing since it takes longer processing time unless you resize the image right at the beginning of the processing.

Description: RGB Comparison of drizzle. The processing time for stacking was quite significant. Approximately 10-15 minutes for the No drizzle version, more than 3 hours for 3x drizzle!! But the difference is quite obvious in this case!

D

Description: The cropped version which makes the difference more obvious. All images were just enhanced with STF in PI. I applied to the RGB versions SCNR (green).
