Description

Here is the Andromeda galaxy, known as Messier 31 (M31). It is the largest galaxy in our local group; 220 thousand light years in diameter and comprised of 1 trillion stars! Beware, Andromeda is approaching the Milky Way galaxy at 64 miles every second, and is expected to collide/merge with our galaxy in about 4 billion years, creating a giant elliptical galaxy! Enjoy...while you still can!
