Description

The Carina nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Carina and located between 6,500 and 10,000 light-years from Earth. Its most characteristic feature is its red color, due to the light emitted by hydrogen atoms ionized by the ultraviolet light coming from hot, young and massive stars. Dark regions are also evident in this nebula, where the gas is colder and more compact and new stars are forming. The Carina nebula is one of the most iconic objects of the southern sky.
