Description

The large crater in the image is Petavius , 177 km in diameter and 3.4 km deep.The convex crater floor has been resurfaced by lava flow, and displays a rille system named the Rimae Petavius. The large central mountains are a prominent formation with multiple peaks, climbing 1.7 kilometers above the floor. Just to the north of the crater in the image is vallis Palitzsch 110 km long , and to the west of Petavius in the image is vallis Snelius 592 km long the longest lunar valley.
