Description

This is my second image with my new ASI2600MC Pro.

It also represents my first foray into using Pixinsight for part of the processing of an actual image. I half-assed the use of PI, but I have a better idea as to what to do next time.

Title: Complete recalibration/reintegration/reprocess from two year old data

Description: This image was one of the first I had captured with a cooled astronomy camera, and one of the first with which I had used Pixinsight in earnest. If you look through my older edits, I really had an epiphany about color calibration with this image, and made some progress with star reduction.

All *previous* iterations to this had been calibrated/integrated in Deep Sky Stacker.

This version is Blinked, calibrated and aligned in WBPP, LN and weighting in Normalize Scale Gradient, directly to Integration.

DBE, PCC, SCNR, HT, StarX, NoiseX, Unsharp Mask, Curves, Curves Saturation, HT to reduce stars, Curves Saturation on Stars, Blend Script Screen to re-add stars- in Pixinsight

Saved as a TIFF and used some color balancing, HDR layers techniques in Photoshop. Final tartening in PS Camera Raw filter, rotated and saved.

This new version uses 18 hours 54 minutes of subs because I am culling fewer subs because NSG and PI rejection algorithms do such a good job with weighting and rejecting fatter stars, etc.

I am pretty happy to finally be able to draw out details like the small planetary nebula (upper left) and some of the grey dust surrounding this famous object. I particularly like the sort of cone of brownish/greyish dust right of center. I had noticed this feature when I was processing this two years ago, but really didn't have the skills to draw it out nicely. I am also much happier with the fine detail in the "tower" in the center of IC 1805 (Melotte 15?).

I might need to reprocess this image for a few reasons eventually.
