Description

NGC 4395 is a remarkable low surface brightness spiral galaxy, about 26 million light-years from Earth, in the constellation Canes Venatici. In addition to being a Seyfert 1 Galaxy, NGC 4395 is noted for having the smallest known central black hole. This galaxy was a challenge, due to the low surface brightness.

Fortunately I took this image from a bortle 1 location (Death Valley, CA). I am thankful to have gotten 15.6 hours of data, unfortunately I made the mistake of turning the gain on my QHY268C way down which I think increased the read noise. In processing this image, it was a real challenge to separate the signal from the noise. I am extremely grateful to Ron Brecher (AstroDoc) for his expertise with the PI processing.
