This image captures a trio of galaxies located in the constellation of Cetus at a declination of -1 degrees. I like this framing because all 3 galaxies present interesting, fairly clear structures to us. I could find few other images of this trio on the internet - I am surprised it is not imaged more. These galaxies are only a group because of our line of sight - they are not close enough to be gravitationally interacting.

The brightest galaxy above is NGC 936, a face-on barred spiral galaxy located 90 million light years away in the upper right of the image. The galaxy spans 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a large diameter of 150,000 light years. The galaxy has a magnitude of 10.2 and a surface brightness of 13.5. I love the detail of the barred region. NGC 936 is nicknamed Darth Vader's Galaxy because of its resemblance to a TIE starfighter. I like the color contrast of this yellow galaxy with the other 2 blue galaxies.

The galaxy at upper left is NGC 941, a somewhat irregular-looking face-on spiral galaxy located 55 million light years away. UGC 1945 is the nearly edge-on irregular galaxy at the bottom of the image located 80 million light years away.

Many stellar-like orange galaxies are visible in the background, seen best in the full resolution view.
