Description

The Gum Nebula supernova remnant is the result of a type II supernova explosion some 12,000 years ago.   It covers an 8 degree field, partially due to the fact that it is a relatively close 800 light years (source: Wikipedia). Imaged with a TAK FSQ 106, with FLI Microline CCD camera, April 5, 2022 from i Telescope's New South Wales site.  This rig images a 4 degree field of view.  135 minutes integration, 9 x 5 minutes with each of red, green , and blue filters. Processed mostly with Pixinsight, and a few tweaks with Nebulosity and Adobe.
Reprocessed in Pixinsight July, 2022.
