Description

This object is a lenticular galaxy located 50 million light years away in the constellation of Coma Berenices at a declination of +18 degrees. This magnitude 10.4 galaxy, with a surface brightness of 13.2, spans 5.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 85,000 light years.

The outer region does not have any structure and is unremarkable. But the inner region! It doesn't even look like a galaxy to me. A stellar core is surrounded by dark billowing dust clouds, as if the universe's largest thunderstorm is about to be unleashed. The outer edge of this inner region is smoothly circular, as if it was rotating on a turntable. Really strange and interesting stuff here.
