Description

"Every star may be a sun to someone" - Carl Sagan

I was trying to explain this concept to my daughter Ayen (pictured) shortly after we snapped this photo. Here's my favorite image from our July, 2020 Shenandoah National Park excursion and a shot I'll always hold on to.

In this blended photo, my daughter and I sit atop Blackrock Summit in the foreground of the core of the Milky Way, containing the area including Sagittarius A, known to include a supermassive black hole. Visible in the photo is a host of nebulae including the Lagoon and Trifid nebulas, star clusters and cosmic dust.

Specs: Tracked, stacked and blended. Sky shot: 14x60" subs at ISO800 tracked on iOptron Skyguider. Foreground shot, single 30 second ISO1600 nontracked shot. Sky shots were stacked in Sequator, gradients wiped in startools, and final processing in Lightroom CC. Photoshop was used to merge the two images. Both shots captured with my Canon 6D, Samyang 135mm F2 lens @ F2.8. I hope you enjoy this shot of an evening I'll never forget.
