Description

Why do we obsess over objects that are almost out of reach? IC 4628 or "Prawn" nebula (never really liked the name) is one of those, that shyly shows at summer nights, too low and embedded into light pollution from peninsular Spain for serious imaging. So it's always in my todo list. By the way, watching the star clusters in this area through binoculars didn't help with this obsession thing.

In my travel to La Palma (Canary Islands) last september, I planned to try it for several consecutive nights while it was a bit higher after nightfall, knowing that it wasn't the best season to work on it, but with a clear horizon at least. The travel turned out to be a mess, with a tropical storm passing very close, so for this target I only managed to capture a few photos, only on the first night. Refraction and extinction are prominent especially in the last images of the sequence; darkness at the lower right is in fact, the horizon. Tracking wasn't very good either, so I was tempted to give up and try next time. But I don't know when there will be a next time, so... even with its defects, I hope you enjoy it.
