Description

The Heart Nebula is an emission nebula with an open star cluster inside and is located in the constellation Cassiopeia in the northern starry sky.

The object is located around 6500 light years away from us in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way. The emission nebula of gas clouds and dark dust regions consists of plasma of ionised hydrogen and free electrons.

The reddish, foggy areas are illuminated by the stars of the open star cluster. This group consists of several stars with a total mass of about 50 times that of the Sun and other smaller and less bright stars. The cluster included a microquasar that was ejected millions of years ago.
