Description

NGC 1365 or the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy lies about 56,000,000 light-years away in the constellation Fornax and spreads across over 200,000 light-years which is more than twice that of our Milky Way! The galaxy is noted for the way its wide arms extend from its central bar giving it a Z-like appearance. The galaxy is known to have an actively feeding supermassive black hole (SMBH) which is about 2 million solar masses and rotates close to the speed of light. This was one of the recent galaxies selected for observation by the JWST.
