Description

This is an interesting, and dusty area of sky in Serpens, straddling the celestial equator. The Serpens Reflection Nebula is visible as a yellowish, bright region towards the top left of the image.

The other nebulae from top left downwards are LBN96 (light blue reflection nebula - GN 18.28.4.02); Van den Bergh 123 (white, to left of the Serpens Nebula), and this merges into Bernes 11 below it.

Sh2-68 is a contrasting planetary nebula (red/blue to right of frame), while long dark dust lanes, accentuated by faint reflection run south past the brightest star in the frame (59 Serpentis). Many Young Stellar and Herbig Haro objects may be found throughout this area.
