Description

NGC 2516 is a brilliant open cluster in the southern constellation of Carina at declination -61 degrees. Also known as the Southern Beehive Cluster, the Diamond Cluster, or Caldwell 96, it is a popular visual target down-under due to it's contrasting red giant stars. It is not often imaged, despite some prominent Ha nebulosity in the region.

Data for this image was was captured in December 2020, but has taken me over 18 months to process. I really must try to improve my cycle time!

Warm wishes and CS.
