Description

This is narrowband data from Telescope Live at the El Sauce hosting facility at 1500m elevation in Río Hurtado, Coquimbo Region, Chile. Ha is 16 x 5 minm, Sii is 15 x 5 min, and Oiii is 7 x 5 min. Filters are 3nm Astrodon.

This is the same data as in my provious image but I feel this SHO palette (Sii in red, Ha in green and Oiii in blue) gives a totally different impression. The strong Oiii and Ha signals in the blue and green channels have here created a blue-cyan color of the hot dust. In processing I have tweaked the colours quite a bit and also run it through SCNRgreen in PI to move the pure green colour towards reddish-brown. This is just becasue I am personally not fan of green in astro images.

The Tarantula Nebula is one of few nebulae in another galaxy that we can get detaild images of. It is situated in the Large Magellanic Cloud of the southern sky. It is so big and bright that that if it were as close to Earth as the Orion Nebula, the Tarantula Nebula would cast visible shadows here.
