The giant loops, stringy dark clouds, spherical ionized clouds, and sharp shock fronts attest to the massive star-forming events in this young cloud. Its age, according to ESO scientists does not exceed a few million years.

For this image, I extracted the narrowband components from their continuum spectra and used those components for a true-color rendering. That isolated narrowband-emission-lines, combined with a bit of the L information, became the Luminosity component of the image, carrying much of the structural information.

The posted image has about ¼ the pixel count of the original.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
