Description

The Rosette Nebula which includes NGC 2237, NGC 2238, NGC 2239, NGC 2244, NGC 2246, Caldwell 49, & Caldwell 50, is an emission nebula and open cluster complex in the Monoceros region in the Milky Way Galaxy. This complex is approximately 5,000 L.Y. away from Earth and is roughly 130 L.Y. in diameter. An emission nebula is a nebula of ionized gases that are energized by nearby high-energy stars. In the case of the Rosette Nebula, the primary source is from young stars freshly being born.
