Description

5,000 light years away from Earth, IC 443 (known as the Jellyfish Nebula due to its shape) is a supernova remnant located in the constellation of Gemini. It is estimated that this nebula originated from a supernova that exploded between 3,000 and 30,000 years ago and that the core of the star responsible for this event formed a neutron star.
With a diameter of 70 light years, it is a very studied object due to its interaction with other molecular clouds.
In this image the hydrogen (red) and oxygen (blue) gases have been mapped, if time permits a Hubble Palette will be made to highlight the sulfur gas.
