Description

Arcturus, the brightest star in the constellation of Bootes is relatively close at around 37 light-years away. Arcturus is a red giant of spectral type K0III and is around 7.1 billion years old.

It has used up its core hydrogen and moved off the main sequence to form a red giant and create heavier elements such as Carbon. It's slightly more massive than our Sun, but has expanded to over 25 times its size, becoming approximately 170 times more luminous.
