Description

This image shows the emission nebula Sh2-280 . It is also known as LBN 970. There are other LBN objects present (LBN 971, 972, and 973). All of these LBN's have the same cataloged coordinates - likely because in Lynds original paper gives only rough locations. However, Lynds provided other information such as size and brightness. Sh2-280 is estimated to be about 4900 to 5500 light years  distant. There are several smaller minor dark nebulae around Sh2-280   These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.  Horizontal FOV is approximately 90 arc minutes.
