IC5068 is often a forgotten nebula, also because its neighbors are the North America and the Pelican one. However, the presence of banded wisps of dark dust falling across this cloud of ionized hydrogen makes this a very interesting and challenging target to capture. I therefore decided to capture it with the objective to highlight the phantastic complexity of dark dust within the nebula.To achieve it, I generated the usual 3 series of images with the hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen filters, then did assemble the SHO composition as usual. To my surprise obtaining an equilibrated result revealed to be significantly more challenging than expected. As a matter of fact, possibly linked to the darkness and complexity of the nebula, one may have the tendency to either push too much with color saturation, or too much contrast, or not sufficient, or to emphasize too much on oxygen or sulfur, and finally end up with a horrible result. So, after more than 20 versions to generate something visually enjoyable and coherent with the science of this nebula, I ended up with this version, where I decided to highlight the infinite filaments of dark dust and the fantastic complex emissions of hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen. Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
